Boston Strangler - Primitive LP

Boston Strangler put out one hell of a demo a few years back.  So, my expectations were high for the inevitable full length album. For all bands but more so for hardcore bands putting out a great full length album is incredibly difficult. Frankly I think most hardcore bands should stick to demos and 7 inches, they just suit the style of music much better than an LP in my opinion. As you might already know from their aforementioned demo Boston Strangler is not most bands. The high expectations I had for this record were not only met but far exceeded.

I know that what I'm going to say is something extremely immature that I probably also said when I was 19 or 20 about some other great records, but anyway here goes:

If you can't get down with this record just fucking stop listening to hardcore and move on to something else.

FATHER JOHN MISTY - FEAR FUN

Father John Misty is the solo project of ex-Fleet Foxes drummer J. Tillman. Indie rock for fans of Neil Young, Roy Orbison, older My Morning Jacket, Waylon Jennings, etc. Check out this debut record from someone who is not only an excellent songwriter, musician, and lyricist, but a magnificent showman as well.

Download here.

MENAHAN STREET BAND

Some of you will recognize the music immediately as the title track kicks in as "that song Jay Z sampled in Roc Boys", but I assure you, Menahan Street Band is much more than that. If you're a fan of soul, Motown, funk, jazz, and all things fun, then you need to listen to this band. Looking for a soundtrack to your summer, whether it be back yard BBQs or chilling on a rooftop? This is it. Here's a short bio:

"The Menahan Street Band is a collaboration of musicians from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, El Michels Affair, Antibalas and the Budos Band, brought together by musician/producer Thomas Brenneck (Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Budos Band, Amy Winehouse) to record hits in the bedroom of his Menahan St. apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn. With influences reaching beyond the funk/soul/afrobeat architecture of their other projects into the more ethereal realms of Curtis Mayfield and Mulatu Astatke, the Menahan Street Band creates a unique new instrumental soul sound that is as raw as it is lush."

This album features Menahan Street Band backing the vocal styling of Charles Bradley. If James Brown and Otis Redding decided to hijack a body, the result would be Bradley. If you can't get behind this record...just stay in your bedroom. Society is better off without boring people.

Leather - First Two 7inches

I'm always telling people to check out this band so I decided to finally put my money blog posting where my mouth is. Below you will find a link for the first two records these guys put out. I hate attempting to describe bands because it always comes off sounding really lame and contrived, but check them out I think they are extremely overlooked.

Leather are also playing a really sick gig on June 10th at the Church with Ceremony and [newly added] Citizens Arrest. Check out it early to catch their set. Last year they put out a 3rd 7 inch on Jade Tree records which I would guess they'll have for sale.

Quiet Arcs- I've Been Feeling Kind Of Temporary (2012)

Quiet Arcs

The best Philly band you still aren't dickriding. The 4th unofficial release and they honestly keep improving. It's a bandcamp link so you can check out their previous releases and catch up and act like you've always been down (as you should).

Grindcore for 3

Now that it's unofficially sleeveless weather, it's time for some REAL ASS GRIND.

Unholy Grave - Crucified

The Japanese grind band everyone wishes they have seen. One of the few/best full lengths that they released in their almost 20 year history.
get it

General Surgery - Necrology EP

Early Carcass worship hailing from Sweden. Gore grind at it's finest. Necrology is some of their earliest, and some considered best work.
get it

Gride - Horizont Udalosti

Fuck yeah! One of the more underrated grind/hc bands. From the Czech Republic, Gride provides some awesome pissed off music with some technical drumming and ferocious guitar work. What can I say, I have a soft spot for gang vocals yelled at me in Czech.

Black Breath- Sentenced to Life (2012)

You got it, its the new Black Breath record catching a lot of people's attention.
Still lots of crust to satisfy loyal fans, but a huge step up in the metal riffs department.
Dump a chalice of bong water on a hot girl's butt and headbang til your neck breaks.

NYC Hip Hop Heavyweights

Been slacking so here comes a husky boy post of Mixtapes by 2 husky ass boys.

A few days ago I was listening to some interviews and freestyles from the XXL 2012 Rookie Class. Nothing really worth mentioning there, shit was mostly ass. Needing to wash that nasty taste out of my mouth I decided to go back and listen to last years freestyles since I knew blog favorite Meek Mill was a part of it. That's when I discovered Fred the Godson out of the Bronx. I suggest you do yourself a favor and listen to these 2 tapes immediately. Expect to find guest appearances by Cam'ron, Vado, Waka, Pusha T, and Meek amongst others.

Fellow NYCer [Queens though not the Bronx] Action Bronson is good for more than posting sweet pics of food and drugs on instagram. Dude can rap. Just listen and find out. This is his latest mixtape which none of you probably have. Thank me later.

LOVE SEX MACHINE-S/T

Ok so I just got introduced to this band about an hour ago and I had to immediately put this up. French Sludge that is definitely at the top of it's game for it's genre. Heavy, slow, groovy and their name and song titles involving sex. Get into this immediately or suck a bag of dicks.

The American Dollar - Awake In The City (2012)

This band is very good. They definitely do not sound like farts. Unless you like the sound of farts, in which case, this band sounds like chili and Budweiser farts.

this is the download link you moron
